The small improvements I've made paid off, and those improvements made me a better wife and mom, a more focused business owner, and a happier, more positive person. As a Personal Trainer, Fitness Nutrition Specialist, and author of fifteen health books, I want to provide you with the most up-to-date research, exercises, and nutrition information that will help you improve your health, your body, and your life simply and easily. I've experienced how much a healthy lifestyle can improve every area of your life, and I want to share that experience with you, show you how easy it can be, and provide you with the information, advice, and tips you'll need to achieve the same!

I am always eager to hear questions and comments from my readers, and will always answer, so please feel free to contact me with any feedback!

Eat (and Drink) for More Energy!

As an Ultimate Fit Mom, there's no doubt that you need every bit of energy you have from the second you wake to the second your head returns to its beautiful spot for slumber. So, why not ensure that you're not going to be running strong at some point throughout the day, and then hit a wall or fall into a slump? Some easy ways to avoid those nasty energy-sucking times of day are super-simple to implement in anyone's busy life... and once you hear the tips, they'll make sense and you'll wonder why you hadn't thought of that before!
- Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day!- After many hours (hopefully) of sleep, you're body has been long-deprived of valuable nutrition; basically, you've been on a fast without even trying. So, you need to get your body back on fat-burning mode by giving it energy (food) to burn as fuel. Coffee does not count, but any great carbohydrate and protein paired meal (toast and eggs, oatmeal and nuts, yogurt with granola, etc.) all make for perfect metabolism fire-starters that will get you well on your way with lasting energy.
- Avoid the Sugary Jump-Start- Even though it may be tempting to reach for the doughnut, sugar-laden latte, or confectionary danish creation, the sugar high will only last so long... and will, inevitably, end with a crash. If you're looking for sustainable energy, these are things to avoid, for sure!
- Almonds and OJ - I know it may sound stupidly simple, but I swear by a handful (10-15) of unsalted, natural, whole almonds and a swig (probably 4 oz.) of orange juice for the perfect solution to those mid-day slumps. If you're not ready for a full-blown meal, but your tummy's rumbling and your brain's getting fuzzy, this is the snack that will perk you back up without slamming you down!
-Water, Water, Water!- I know all avid readers of this blog know that my biggest recommendation is to drink water, but it's seriously important if energy is your issue. Water will keep you hydrated, maintain optimal body and brain functioning, and keep you at the top of your game. No sugar added is just one more plus (MAJOR PLUS!) of water... so drink up!

Fruits and Veggies on a Budget

Every Ultimate Fit Mom knows that getting valuable fruit and veggie servings every day is important for everyone in her family. I was in the produce section of Publix over the weekend scouting prices, and a woman next to me made the comment, "Produce is so expensive! It's a wonder people even eat it anymore!" I completely agree, and it brings me to this very important topic: Should we be sacrificing our health and the health of our families to avoid paying the high pricetag of fruits and vegetables? The answer is, obviously, "no", but how can we provide sound nutrition on a budget?
Here's my suggestion to anyone and everyone out there looking for exceptional produce on a shoestring budget: visit the produce stand!
Here, in Jensen Beach, we are absolutely blessed with Barbour's produce on Indian River Drive. Not only is the variety and supply of amazing fruit and vegetables available there, you would not believe the price! If you compare the same amount of apples, peaches, pears, asparagus, broccoli, and especially bell peppers!, you'll never again buy produce from a grocery store! In addition to amazing prices that make it possible to have cut up fruit in your fridge for anytime snacking and veggies on your plates at every dinnertime meal, if you have any complaints about anything you purchase at this location, they'll exchange your fruit free of charge!
So, if you've been fighting off that urge to make that delicious stuffed red bell pepper recipe because of the $4/ pound price at Publix, head to your local produce stand to get great quality peppers (and so much more) for so much less!
